Power Engineers Collaborative, LLC (PEC), a division of Juhl Energy, Inc. (JUHL) is an

engineering services firm established to serve electric generators, utilities, and both industry and government agencies. PEC provides engineering solutions to clients for the expansion, modernization, consolidation and creation of new and existing power generation assets. PEC participates as the Engineer for a range of services including development and execution of projects utilizing coal, gas, and renewable technologies. The firm has offices in Oak Brook, Illinois and Brookfield, Wisconsin.

 

Position Description

This is a position for a degreed electrical engineer in the electric power industry interested in furthering their career in the design of power generation facilities. The successful candidate will work within an office environment with some field assignments which will include site condition verification, construction observation, inspection of equipment, and support of startup and commissioning activities appropriate for the individual’s capabilities.

 

Assignments will normally include detailed design related activities such as development of schematics, specification of electrical equipment (transformers, switchgear, motor control center, battery systems, etc.), development of electrical equipment layouts, selection of appropriate cabling for the applications, general layout of conduit and cable tray, selection of specialty equipment, development of cable routing, and preparation of engineering documents to support construction and operation. The individual will work in a project team atmosphere and will be expected to take a leadership role in electrical design aspects of various projects.

 

Requirements include possession of individual expertise in one or more areas, i.e. Low and Medium Voltage Switchgear and Distribution, Utility Interconnection, Relay Protection, and General Electrical System Design. Professional registration in one or more states or the ability to gain registration is required.

 

Attributes desired of the successful candidate include a strong interest in the generation and distribution of electrical energy through both the traditional application of fossil fuels (boilers, combustion turbines and diesel / gas fired engines) as well as the use of renewable energy sources such as biomass, solar, and wind. A strong background in electric machinery, circuit analysis, controls, logic systems, and power distribution is desirable. Experience in conducting load flow and coordination studies is a plus. Strong project management and communication skills, both written and verbal are required as well as an attention to detail.

 

Periodic travel to client facilities occurs.
